  • Navigational Audits

Based on the experience of several casualty investigations in collisions and groundings, we tailored for Managers and Owners a dedicated service of Nautical Analysis with the aim of providing them with a professional technical and nautical advice to assess the effectiveness of the navigation procedures on their fleets.

According to OCIMF “Best Practice for Navigational Assessments and Audits”, remote navigational audits may be useful to assess the bridge team members in a more natural environment, without them being influenced by the presence of the auditor, to observe more accurately every day practices.

The navigational audit report will be based on the results of the examination of the instrumental evidences regarding the ship’s manoeuvring gathered from VDR recording, of vessels documents and of the orders and radio communications exchanged on the bridge contained in VDR audio section, taking the international regulations, the industry best practices and the Company bridge procedures as a reference to comply with.

The report structure will include the following sections:

    • Audit details: includes the assessment main data (voyage, period, operations, auditor), a brief narrative report and the list of non-conformities found.
    • VDR Data Analysis: includes the details and graphs of the examined NMEA data for the period in analysis.
    • Sea Passage Details: includes a sequence of significant screenshots from the dynamic reconstruction of the navigation on ENC, together with relevant VDR saved Radar screenshot.
    • Static Report: check-list for the review of passage plan, navigational records and documents and the relevant compliance with bridge procedures.
    • Dynamic Report: check-list for a comprehensive review of the navigational practices during the voyage through the observation and the assessment of technical and non-technical skills of bridge team members.
